Rob Reiner’s Son Nick Reiner: What to Know After Arrest for Murder

“It was very difficult at times,” Rob said of collaborating with Nick on the project. “But it was the most creative, the most fulfilling experience I’ve ever had.”
He also admitted that it made him and Michele rethink the way they had dealt with their son’s problems in the moment.
“The program works for some people but it can’t work for everybody,” Rob told the LA Times in 2015, when Being Charlie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. “When Nick would tell us that it wasn’t working for him, we wouldn’t listen. We were desperate and because the people had diplomas on their wall, we listened to them when we should have been listening to our son.”
Asked if anything good came out of his time in rehab, Nick told the Times, referring to the movie, “Maybe this.”
They made Being Charlie for an audience, Rob said, “But really it’s for us. To be honest, by the time we got to the point of making the movie it didn’t matter if we actually did. Because our relationship had gotten so much closer.”
